Polio vaccination for children
Polio is a serious infection that’s now very rare because of the NHS vaccination programme. It’s only found in a few countries and the chance of getting it in the UK is extremely low.
The polio vaccine is part of the NHS routine childhood vaccination schedule.
If your child is aged 1-4, check your child’s red book and contact your GP to book an appointment for any missed vaccinations.
If your child is 4-11, a registered healthcare professional will contact you to talk you through the local offer, explain the consent process, answer any questions and arrange an appointment.
Check if your vaccinations are up to date
You can contact your GP surgery to check if you, or your child, are up to date with your polio vaccinations. For children and babies, you can also check their personal child health record (red book).
