South west Londoners are “making the most” of the refreshed NHS app by requesting repeat prescriptions, viewing their medical records and finding health services near them as latest figures show users they have logged in almost 25,000 times a day on average since the start of 2024.
The NHS app has been updated to make it easier for people to access their information and services. People using the updated app will find the homepage more streamlined, navigation simpler and the language clearer.
New features are being added to the app regularly as the NHS urges more people to use the app in their everyday lives.
In the same time it takes to make a cup of tea, people can use the refreshed, user-friendly version of the NHS app to:
- request repeat prescriptions
- choose their usual pharmacy or collect from any pharmacy in England
- check if they need urgent medical help using 111 online
- view GP-held medical records, including medication, test results and immunisations
- register for organ donation and change your preferences
- access NHS services on behalf of somebody else (for example, their children or other family members)
- find NHS services near them, such as dentists, pharmacies or mental health services
- view messages from for example their GP or about hospital appointments.
The average number of NHS app logins per day for south west Londoners since the start of January is more than 24,200. It means that monthly logins rose by 48% in the last year, from 495,587 in March 2023 to 736,534 this year.
While there are now 886,000 registered NHS app users in the south west London boroughs of Merton, Wandsworth, Kingston, Richmond, Sutton and Croydon, more people are being encouraged to access the benefits of using it.
South west London’s chief medical officer Dr John Byrne said: “The NHS app is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services and information on your smartphone or tablet.
“South west Londoners are already making the most of the NHS app, logging in nearly 25,000 times a day on average to manage their health from the comfort of their homes or out and about.
“So I would urge anyone who hasn’t downloaded it yet to find out how it will benefit them too, whether that’s to view a GP health record, order and track a repeat prescription or simply finding services near them.”
To download the NHS app, visit your device’s app store and follow the easy step-by-step registration instructions.
It will help if you know your NHS number (although this is not essential), and you will need to have a form of ID (passport or driving licence) to hand.
The app is available for anybody over the age of 13 who is registered with a GP surgery in England. Find out more about the NHS App.
